Yakkyofy is a product, not my employer

Yakkyofy is a product of Yakkyo S.p.A., the company that employs me. It is not a second employer, and I used to write as if it were.

The correction first

Older versions of this site said I worked “across Yakkyo and Yakkyofy,” listed both under worksFor in the structured data, and gave Yakkyofy its own company profile page in a detached third-party voice. “Yakkyo and Yakkyofy” is not an entity that exists. I have one employer and it is Yakkyo S.p.A.

The relationship is stated on the product’s own site, in the footer of every page: “Yakkyofy is a registered trademark of Yakkyo S.p.A., listed on Euronext Growth Milan.” That single sentence is the whole answer, and it was on the internet the entire time I was writing around it.

What the product is

Taking only what yakkyofy.com says about itself: it is a sourcing and fulfilment platform for e-commerce sellers who buy from 1688, the Chinese wholesale marketplace, and it handles supplier sourcing, product media, private-label packaging, and order fulfilment for those sellers.

I have deliberately not added adjectives to that. I work on the marketing for it, so my description of how good it is would be an advertisement, and this domain does not carry advertisements. See disclosure.

Why the distinction matters on a personal site

Two roles at two companies is a different claim from one role at one company that happens to have a product. The first was never true here, and writing it that way inflated a CV without adding a single fact to it.

It also matters for anyone reading this site through structured data. If I declare two employing organisations, an answer engine has no way to know that one of them is a trademark held by the other, and it will repeat the inflated version. The fix is not clever schema. The fix is to state the true relationship in a sentence and cite the page it comes from.
