Changelog

A dated, append-only record of what changed on this site and when, starting with the August 2026 rebuild.

Published 3 min read

What changed here, with dates. New entries go on top; old entries are not edited.

The idea is borrowed from gwern.net’s changelog, which has kept a public, dated, chronological record of site changes since September 2013. The Stanford Guidelines for Web Credibility make the same point more bluntly at number eight of ten: show that the site has been reviewed recently.

Errors of fact are logged separately, on the corrections page.

2026-08-05: Rebuild

The archive was deleted and the site rebuilt from an empty layouts/. Everything below describes this build (the one you are reading) measured against the version it replaces. Where an item says “removed”, it means the thing is absent from what ships here, not that it vanished from the old site at some earlier date.

Removed

  • 739 machine-generated English articles (2,922 markdown files after machine translation into Italian, Arabic and Simplified Chinese) and the hourly Cloudflare Worker that produced them across 842 Add post: commits between 31 October 2025 and 27 April 2026. The full account is in the postmortem; the dated retraction log is on the corrections page.
  • The online-registration-software benchmark, along with the AggregateRating values it emitted about third-party products. Withdrawn, not corrected.
  • Google Analytics 4 (property G-XMEW7KSTQD). There is no GA4 property, no tag manager and no third-party analytics script in this build’s templates or configuration.
  • The x.com/RezaAliMo link, which returned a 404 from every page it appeared on, and the YouTube channel link, which pointed at a channel with no videos. Neither appears in this build’s header, footer, humans.txt, or sameAs structured data. LinkedIn is the only account listed.
  • Translated pages carrying metrics that had already been retracted in English.

Added

  • /disclosure/, /editorial-policy/, /corrections/, /privacy/, /imprint/, /terms/, /contact/, and this page. Eleven URLs in this family returned 404 before today, including every one the footer and the header linked to.
  • A real contact page. The header call to action previously pointed at /#contact, an anchor that does nothing from any URL except the homepage, and /contact/ itself did not exist.
  • A source check in continuous integration. Every source URL in every article’s front matter is fetched on each build, and the build fails if any of them stops returning HTTP 200.
  • A required limits statement and a stated confidence level on every article.

Changed

  • New design: light, high-contrast, serif, with body text at a fixed reading measure. The previous theme was dark and low-contrast, and used a text colour that fell below the WCAG AA contrast minimum for the entire footer and every article date.
  • Both typefaces are now self-hosted and shipped with the site. The old CSS declared fonts that were never served.
  • All content is visible without JavaScript. The old homepage hid most of its height behind a scroll observer with no fallback.
  • Article URLs are now /writing/<slug>/.
